The Women Behind BSA

Bookshelf Anatomy (BSA) is a small, women-owned creative business built by a mother-daughter duo who have always believed that the things we make, collect, read, stitch, paint, and save tell a story about who we are.

We’re Claudia E. Heyer and Hetty Jarvis, two artists with different creative backgrounds and one very shared tendency: collecting hobbies.

Bookshelf Anatomy grew from that idea. A bookshelf is rarely just books. It holds the pieces of your life—the things you’ve picked up along the way, the things you’ve made with your own hands, and the things you could never quite bring yourself to part with.

So we started asking:

Meet Claudia

Claudia is the paper, paint, botanical, and mixed-media side of Bookshelf Anatomy.

Her work combines painting, collage, fiber, botanicals, paper, and found inspiration into colorful mixed-media pieces. Original artwork often begins on a wood panel, inside an art journal, out in the garden, or at the studio table before finding its way into stationery, cards, stickers, bookmarks, miniature books, paper goods, and other little pieces meant to be used and treasured.

Her work celebrates the beauty of making something simply because you felt inspired to make it.

Meet Hetty

Hetty is the needlepoint and fiber-arts side of Bookshelf Anatomy.

A lifelong creative and collector at heart, Hetty brings a fresh perspective to a traditional craft through original needlepoint designs, thoughtfully selected canvases, accessories, project ideas, and finishing.

There’s something special about taking a painted canvas, choosing the threads, watching it slowly come alive stitch by stitch, and eventually turning it into something you can keep for years.

That process is at the heart of what we mean when we say Needlepoint Reimagined.

Two Artists. One Bookshelf.

Our styles aren't identical—and that's kind of the point.

One of us might be surrounded by paper scraps, paint, flowers, and an art journal while the other has three needlepoint projects going, a pile of thread nearby, and another canvas already picked out.

Bookshelf Anatomy is where those worlds meet.

Our shop brings together needlepoint, paper art, stationery, mixed media, fiber arts, original artwork, and creative goods for people who, like us, don't believe they have to choose just one creative hobby.

We create some pieces ourselves, collaborate with other artists and makers, and curate things we genuinely love.

A needlepoint ornament can remind you of the year you stitched it. A card can become something someone keeps tucked inside a drawer. A piece of artwork can follow you from home to home. A project can remind you of the person you sat beside while you worked on it.
